Post-Sandi notes

During the first few very critical days that followed Sandy, bicycling has proven to be the only dependable method of transportation in the post-hurricane environment.
Unlike any car, bicycles are not as susceptible to the water damage. They do not need fuel, so the riders did not have to waste hours in long lines at the gas stations. Also, bikes are less likely to get a punctured tire even if riders are at times forced to run over debris . During the times when there is no car, bus, or car-services available, bicycling is an alternative that becomes a primary way of transportation for many people.
Considering post-storm chaos in mass transit , such as overcrowded buses, suspended or shortened train services, the biking has become more reliable mode than public transit. The cycling was not really affected by the hurricane consequences since it only depends on the physical power and the willingness of the commuter to bike.
